The Mommy Blogs

What I am about to write is probably not news to most.  But, it is intriguing me of late.  There is a whole large community of Mommy Blogs out there.  They are called Mommy Blogs.  And they are a big deal.  They have contests, partys and get-togethers.  They….”hang-out.”  And they take Blogging fairly seriously.  Like a job.  I am new to this.  I thought people just blogged because of the overflow of their hearts (I’m sure this is part of it-but it seems to have a bigger overall purpose).  And these people make Jonesville look like I write my posts on a piece of paper with a crayon.  I just didn’t realize there was this huge community putting some serious effort into serious blogposts about being a Mommy.  I thought I had a Mommy Blog, I mean I am a Mommy and I blog, right?  And these folks get THOUSANDS of visitors a day.  THOUSANDS!  And their comments sections are so long!  Well, more to the point….I came across Scribbit’s blog. And Scribbit is very cool.  She is from Alaska (this alone qualifies her as being “cool”) and she actually created something with google where you can run a search and hit only Mommyblogs.  So if you want to search what mom’s think about  getting up in the morning you can plug it in and find out what the Mommyblogs have blogged about such a topic.  (which they blog alot about not wanting to get up in the morning…can’t says I blame ‘em).  So I was reading Rocks in My Dryer who hosts Works For Me Wednesday (which I read from some other blog)-this is fun, and she talks about Blogging Basics 101, a blog linked to by lots of the mommyblogs. Anyway, this might be the second lamest post after DayLightSavings time.

In other “news” I checked out AKirk’s blog and she took a quiz on www.Findyourspot.com. It asks ya lots of questions and figures out for you where your best spot is.  But I suspect it is rigged because guess who came up first?  Carlisle, PA.  Do you wanna here the top 6?  I’ll tell you but if you don’t wanna know I am warnin’ you now.  I’ll do the top six and then honorable mentions.  1. or course you know it was Carlisle.  2.  Cincinnati, OH.  I only think of the movie Major League with Charlie Sheen when I think of the city because it was about the Indians.  And they sing about the Cayahoga (?) river.  Never been on my personal top ten…..3.  Knoxville, TN. “Gateway to the Smokey Mountains” 4.  Charleston, SC 5. Jacksonville, FL….hmmm seems southern…..6.  St. George, Utah “Utah’s Dixie”–see even when it is not Southern, it’s southern.  And coming in at 11: Chattanooga! Well, here we come old friend, “The city of vision.”  80 days til our anticipated move and boys & girls I cannot wait until my husband has 1 job! Ok there I said it, I have tried to be upbeat but man this last semester is stompin’ on me.  This week, for reals, only 2 more Monday evening classes.

Glad to get that all off my mind.  Thanks.

  • I can’t resist a good quiz, so I took the plunge and found my top spots….And the winner is: Clarksville, TN! (WHERE? Didn’t the last train already leave for there?) And number 2? Chattanooga! So…we may be doing something right folks. One interesting note is that Birmingham appeared NOWHERE on the list. Also FYI for the hubby - there was only one TX town in the mix. College Station appeared at #16….so I guess we’ll just have to keep visiting every year. He would be happy to note that Athens, GA came in at #8. Go Dawgs. Woof.

  • Well I saw your link and added you into the search engine, if that’s alright. Thanks for the compliments, I’m blushing. Anyone who wants the code for their own site is welcome to it.

  • So, it’s not rigged?

  • I’m with you on the Monday night thing! We should party during one of the last two. Or is that really rude to our hard-working exhausted husbands?

  • Hi, I just wanted to let you know that our quiz is definitely not rigged in any way. The database matches as many of your answers as possible to 24 of our 530+ cities/towns.
    Have a great day!

  • I think it’s rigged- Chris did it and got Carlisle, PA like everyone else does. Jonesey, you get comments from popular people.

  • I got Carlisle PA too. It’s got to be rigged. My 2 cents.

  • Well, you guys are all a lot of like in terms of demographic.

My top few are as follows:

    Little Rock, AK (huh?)
Baton Rouge, LA (New Orleans is more like it!)
Baltimore, MD (where I was born!)
    Portland, OR
    Honolulu, HI (now we’re talking)
    Providence, RI

  • ps. I think the mommy-blog phenomenon as described above is a little creepy. my 2 cents.
